Have you been hearing a lot about ‘conscious consumption’ lately, and wondering how you can make a difference?
It’s easy to be overwhelmed and not know exactly where to start.
But did you know that it’s the little things you do that can make a big difference?
The small decisions you make every day can help you make a shift towards conscious consumption. Whether you are passionate about fair trade, or sustainability, or community support, we know that it’s important to be able to shop according to your values.
Here at Wollongong Central we are proud of our environmentally responsible design which was awarded a 5 Star Green Star rating on our development in 2016. We were the first retail development to achieve this award, and you can feel good shopping in one of Australia's most sustainable retail developments. Your small actions can make a big change!
It’s easy to make a contribution to a healthier, fairer, more sustainable world, just by making some slight adjustments to your usual habits.
Here are 5 quick and easy ways for you to make a difference today:
Next time you’re grabbing a coffee here at one of your favourite cafes in-centre, bring your own reusable coffee cup, to help reduce the 1 billion disposable coffee cups that get sent to landfill in Australia each year.
Did you know that your soft plastic bags (from things like frozen food, cereal box liners, bubble wrap, pasta bags, used shopping bags, bread bags etc) can’t be recycled in your regular Council kerbside recycling bin?
Rather than send them to landfill, bring them in-centre to put them in the specially marked bin outside Coles, where they will be recycled into things like outdoor furniture!
Bring in your old clothes to H&M and donate them to be re-worn, reused or recycled. It doesn’t matter what brand they are or what condition they are in – clear out your wardrobe and make a difference at the same time!
Look for the ‘Fairtrade’ certification on products like chocolate, coffee, tea and vanilla when doing your grocery shopping at Coles.
Say no to plastic bags and bring your own reusable bags instead!
