Opened in 1975 with a red logo and a big vision, Crown Central brought fashion, food and everyday essentials into one place and gave Wollongong a new kind of shopping.

In the '90s, the building changed hands. The centre grew. The city kept moving.

Now under the guidance of Haben, the original Crown Building still holds its place within Wollongong Central.

A little older, a little shinier, and still home to long-time retailers like David Jones, Prouds and Strandbags.

This Crown is, and always will be, the true heart of the CBD.

The Oldest Escalator in the Illawarra

Still going strong after 50 years — the original escalator in the Crown building has carried generations of shoppers through Wollongong Central since 1975. A true icon of movement and memory.
